Collaborative Care.
General psychiatric consults through Psychotherapy Matters are covered by OHIP.
In Partnership with Psychotherapy Matters
At Bloom & Balance Therapy, we believe in collaborative, whole-person care. For some individuals, therapy alone is deeply supportive. For others, diagnoses and medication may be an important piece of the healing process. Through our partnership with Psychotherapy Matters, clients can access virtual psychiatrist consultations for assessment, diagnosis clarification, lifestyle recommendations, and medication recommendations when clinically appropriate.
What Is Psychotherapy Matters?
Psychotherapy Matters is a Canadian organization that connects clients with licensed psychiatrists for virtual consultations. These appointments are typically focused, time-limited assessments designed to support your ongoing therapy, not replace it.
The psychiatrist may:
Provide diagnostic clarification
Offer medication recommendations
Suggest adjustments to existing medications
Suggest lifestyle changes
Recommend therapeutic approaches
Share clinical insights to support your treatment plan
How It Works
We discuss together whether a psychiatric consultation could be helpful.
A referral is submitted through Psychotherapy Matters (by your family doctor).
You attend a virtual appointment with a psychiatrist and your therapist.
Recommendations are shared with you and, with your consent, integrated into your therapy plan. As well as shared with your family doctor, to ensure continuity of care (particularly around diagnoses and medications).
This allows for coordinated, team-based care while keeping your therapeutic relationship at the center.
Is This Covered?
Psychiatrist consultations through Psychotherapy Matters are typically covered by OHIP with a valid Ontario health card. Therapy services at Bloom & Balance Therapy remain private-pay and may be covered under extended health benefits. We can clarify coverage specifics together before submitting any referral.
*The Autism Program and ADHD Program are an additional cost ($300-$450).
Is Medication Required?
No. A consultation does not mean you must start medication. It is simply an opportunity to gather information, explore options, and make informed decisions about your care. Your autonomy and comfort always come first.
Who Might Benefit from a Psychiatric Consultation?
You might consider this option if:
Symptoms feel persistent or severe despite therapy
You’re curious about medication options
You want diagnostic clarification
You’ve tried medication before and want a second opinion
You’re experiencing significant mood, anxiety, attention, or trauma-related symptoms
If you’re unsure, we can talk it through together.
Our Approach
At Bloom & Balance Therapy, we value thoughtful, informed care. Psychiatric consultations are not about “fixing” you, they are about expanding your support system.
Healing can be layered: Therapy. Skills. Nervous system work. Medication. Community.
We help you explore what balance looks like for you.
